Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction and Pyeloplasty

UPJ obstruction is a congenital narrowing of the ureter or the small, tube-like structure that carries urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Using minimally invasive robotic methods, surgeons are able to perform the reconstructive surgery with very high precision through four incisions of a half-inch or less. Operative times with the da Vinci® S Surgical System, as compared to traditional open pyeloplasty, have not decreased; but the hospital stay is decreased from three days to one.
